Tibet Tour
"Mt. Kailash & Mansarovar Tour
(holy trip)
In the far west of Tibet is Mt Kailash
or Kang Rinpoche, the most sacred mountain in Asia venerated
by Buddhists, Hindus, Jains and the ancient Bon Po religion
of Tibet and is considered the centre of the universe &
the most holy place in the world for both Hindus and Buddhists.
For many centuries Tibetan and Indian pilgrims have been
making the 53km circuit, or Kora, of the mountain, which
supposedly wipes the sins of a lifetime, enticement enough,
but also it is undoubtedly one of the most stunning 3-4
day walks in the world. This circumambulation is clockwise
for Buddhists and Hindus and anti-clockwise for Bon followers.

But while the world has gotten
smaller, it is only recently that Kailash has become more
accessible. Nomads still spend years herding their yaks
and sheep from far away corners of Tibet towards Kailash
while other less self-sufficient pilgrims still spend months
walking and hitching on trucks in hope of arriving. Even
by Landcruiser, it is still an arduous trip. Despite the
difficulties, for the atheist, ascetic and devout alike,
it is the journey of a lifetime, and always will be.
